What is Your Purpose in One Word?

The following is a post that was published on LinkedIn to share the information about the podcast between Dr. Stacey Gonzales, her co-host Morgan Joseph, and guest Matt Silver.

“What is your purpose in one word?”

Dr. Stacey Gonzales, with her co-host Morgan Joseph, talk with Matt Silver, CEO of Pathways Education, in a powerful new episode on the EdUp Edge podcast, scheduled to air Wednesday, August 18.

While he asked that question towards the end of the podcast, he spent time leading up to that, by exploring the ideas of adding real meaning to project-based learning, building curriculum on the self-determination theory, and the trust model in coaching.

“Pathways Education is a limited liability company with a social purpose. We are building a social enterprise for young people with special needs,” he explained. “We create coffee shops and then students spend half their time running the coffee shop and the other half building their own business.”

“We create pathways. We don’t wait for them to appear,” he said.

These three points, plus much more, are discussed in this power-packed episode:

How coffee shops are creating opportunities for helping young people find employment.

A model of coaching that doesn’t “tell you what to do but creates a space for you to grow.”

Finding the authentic version of one’s self.

It’s about teaching people to communicate, value, and understand each other. “You are doing a disservice by committing all of your time to everyone else. There needs to be some development of self,” Matt said.

“Flip it from a circle to a spiral,” he added.
